Lazy Cats; Jungle Fish; Quince and Kim Soo

From the industrial bohemian cafe called Lazy Cats in Ubud, to the delicious ceramics and great coffee/food at Quince in Canggu, the eclectic and stylish resort of Jungle Fish overlooking Osh River Valley, and the ambient homewares shop called Kim Soo Home.  I couldn’t resist sharing inspiration from some of the clever designers in Bali.

Credit to Lazy Cats Cafe – designed by Architect Alexis Dornier.  Jungle Fish Resort – designed by Furniture Designer/Owner, Niki Nasr, and Architect Rob Sample.  Quince – Owners/Creatives: Michele and Armen.  Kim Soo – Kim and Giorgia.

Love your work.

New Paintings For Sale

New Paintings For Sale

Revisiting an earlier style of painting, but incorporating every tasty, relevant knowledge I have learnt since.

It is a looser style, which I am enjoying.  Always conscious of sound preparation of the surface and background, so it is always ready for whatever the next layer reveals.  Loving this process. The art often lies in knowing when to stop.

Close up

“A picture lives on many different levels at once. It is an interpenetration of planes of reality. It cannot be analysed or anatomised into single levels, because one level can only be understood in the light of others. The reality or interior life of the picture can only be realised as a total experience”

– Cecil Collins

Embracing The Blues

Embracing The Blues

Blue is such an uplifting colour.  It goes with just about everything.  Inspiration is everywhere –  from the fabulous winter blue sky days; Timothy Oulton’s Noble Souls indigo dyed linen; this gorgeous Pierre Frey fabric; glossy textured subway tiles from The Tile People, to the layers of blue inks in my latest painting ‘When All You Can Hear Is What You Can See’.

After many layers of shellac inks and acrylics the depth is magic.  ‘When All You Hear Is What You See‘ is ready for sale. 1200x1200mm on Ply Box Board.  SOLD

Development of a New Concrete Oxide Colour Range

Love Your Work – This is why I enjoy what I do… Colour Development

Last year I worked with Dianne and Paul at the Oxide Distributing Company in Glenfield, Auckland to develop a usable and contemporary range of colours for their concrete oxides.

It is called the Designer Colour Range, and has 27 relevant and exciting oxides, which has already had a fantastic response from their customers since launched.   There are 9 different colour categories, each of which have 3 variations of hues and tones – Riverstone; Slate; Autumn; Desert; Clay; Sandstone; Tussock; Coastal; and Greenstone.  The range was inspired by our own natural New Zealand flora, rocks and soils.
