Add Black With That

Add Black With That

From the leaves on the wet Ponsonby Rd pavement; a client’s kitchen with its mink brown tiled splash back; to the chevron floors at Artedomus, with that table!!  The striking cushions from Elle Maison will liven up any room.

Interior Design – Keep it Natural

Storie – Florim ceramic tiles from European Ceramics; the timber tray and bowls display at Apartmento; the stunning granite slab from SlabCo; my favourite antique cane chair, and Pierre Frey’s cork wallpaper from Atelier – all creating interesting texture and tones, naturally.

Horner’s Confectionery – Dulux Cook Strait & Huka Falls

This was an enjoyable project to work on last year, particularly as the owners had some vision, and were not afraid of some colour…. the right colour of course.  As it is a well known sweet company, I didn’t think the predictable sweet colours were right. The Charcoal joinery framed the Dulux colours of Cook Strait and Huka Falls with the doors in Dulux Torrent Bay, and Dulux Whangaroa keeping the vibe fresh and lively.

Commissioned Paintings

A commissioned painting is ideal when the space suits a specific size, and colours.  The theme also reflects the nautical location, and it gives the entrance a welcoming lift.

Lazy Cats; Jungle Fish; Quince and Kim Soo

From the industrial bohemian cafe called Lazy Cats in Ubud, to the delicious ceramics and great coffee/food at Quince in Canggu, the eclectic and stylish resort of Jungle Fish overlooking Osh River Valley, and the ambient homewares shop called Kim Soo Home.  I couldn’t resist sharing inspiration from some of the clever designers in Bali.

Credit to Lazy Cats Cafe – designed by Architect Alexis Dornier.  Jungle Fish Resort – designed by Furniture Designer/Owner, Niki Nasr, and Architect Rob Sample.  Quince – Owners/Creatives: Michele and Armen.  Kim Soo – Kim and Giorgia.

Love your work.

Naturally Rugs

Naturally Rugs

There are so many options for rugs, it is integral to get the balance right within the room.  The colour; style; size; positioning, as well as the components of the rug are all important to consider.  I tend towards the natural wools, jute, hemp and sisal.  It is reassuring to see the carpet companies coming out with more wool ranges again.  I think they have more presence than artificial ones.  However there are times when the artificial ones are more appropriate in a practical sense.

Shopping for a client last week I found a beautiful range within the inner city from some of my favourite suppliers – SF Design; Artisan and Designer Rugs
